LOL Homeschool Principal, Childcare Director, Foster Parent

Melissa, known on campus as “Miss M,” was born and raised in Pennsylvania. She initially heard about LOL through missionary friends while she lived as a teacher in Belmopan, Belize.

She committed first as an intern, and then became a full-time volunteer to show the love of God to the children of Belize, and teach them in their daily lives. Melissa graduated from college with a degree in Elementary Education, and brought her gifting to LOL.

She currently oversees our home-school department at LOL for the children who are not enrolled in the local schools due to various reasons. In addition, she is a full-time foster parent to four children. Melissa is committed to staying at LOL for as long as God tells her to stay.

Edgar: Grounds Manager, Foster Parent | Julia: Supplies Manager, Foster Parent

Edgar, also know as “Sheds” and Julia are Belizeans who were originally hired on staff in 2015 as care-givers. In 2016, they were given the opportunity to come on as interns to be further poured into, both individually and together as a dating couple, by Melissa and Jervis along with volunteers and staff.

In 2017, Sheds and Julia got married and joined our LOL team permanently. Soon after, they brought their first biological daughter, Grace, who has joined them on this calling in life. Edgar and Julia are full-time foster parents. In addition, Edgar works in as the LOL Grounds Manager, and Julia is a stay at home mom to their daughter Grace and their LOL children.

Social Media Manager

Nina, from Northern Colorado, came to Belize with a team of college students in 2014. The following summer, she completed a two-month internship with Laugh Out Loud. During this time, she was a caregiver for the younger children.

After her internship, Nina returned home for a year before the Lord brought her back into the jungle of Belize to serve the children at LOL in a full-time capacity. Nina fostered two boys for about two years. During February 2020, her two foster boys were adopted and now live in the U.S. Nina relocated back to the U.S. in September, 2021. She continues to oversee our social media department from the U.S.

Foster Parent

Santa is a local Belizean from Midway Village. In 2018, Santa was hired as our on-call care giver. Santa showed great dedication and faithfulness to the ministry and children. Later, she was given an opportunity to join the team full-time. It is Santa’s dream to serve God by working with children and help raise the next generation.

Santa is a foster parent to five children. She finds great joy in raising these children, and puts great effort in providing them with a healthy and loving environment to grow up in.
